We don’t change the work. The work changes us.

Our Approach

We are a workout studio and institute of Classical Pilates. We practice, train in, and teach the complete classical movement repertoire and ingenious training methods of Joseph H. Pilates otherwise known as the Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning, or originally as Contrology.

We share Joseph Pilates’ great vision: Extraordinary fitness and vitality can be achieved and maintained and will result in a greater adaptability, appreciation, and enjoyment of life. We further hold that the pursuit of physical excellence and vitality is imperative to the betterment of humankind and consciousness. It is our intention to bring this vision to its highest possible realization.

A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion.

Why Pilates?

Pilates (originally Contrology) is a powerful and ingenious system of corrective exercises created and realized by legendary fitness guru Joseph Hubertus Pilates in the early 1900s. A true pioneer in the field of health and physical fitness, Joe began his work with the rehabilitation of injured athletes and dancers. He created over 500 specific exercises, and went on to invent and design an array of unique apparatus and devices that create strong, balanced, and versatile bodies.

Your center: The first order of business. The method emphasizes the development and use of the “powerhouse” —all the muscles that surround, move, and support the trunk; and the “core” —the deeper, intrinsic, stabilizing muscles that directly support the low back and pelvic girdle. You will learn to sense, strengthen, control, and move from this place.

“Pilates is about length, strength, and using your brain!” -Romana Kryzanowska. The apparatus utilize progressive resistance in extended ranges of motion to develop at once both length and strength in the muscles, and mobility and stability in the joints. Through the 6 principles of Concentration, Breath, Centeredness, Precision, Control, and Flow, which are woven into the exercises, Pilates increases neuromuscular (mind/body) integration resulting in better balance, coordination, and proprioception.

Cross training: Bring your A-game every time! Pilates is not only compatible with virtually every other workout and athletic discipline, it improves the experience of that discipline in both performance and recovery. Pilates -in the body- decreases incidents of sports-specific injury and overuse syndrome, improves recovery from when they do happen, and makes you deceptively strong in the process.

Pilates is for everyone! The kinesthetic models of Joe’s method derive from gymnastics, boxing, swimming, ballet, and the demands of every-day life. Pilates can be attenuated to meet the demands and/or needs of literally everyone. For the athlete, it’s her secret weapon. For the injured it’s his rehabilitation. For those who do not participate in any other form of exercise, Pilates remains the best possible option to promote lasting health, youth, and vitality. No other single exercise system offers so much with such clarity and dexterity.
